Beyond Bikes

A Community-Oriented Program

About.

Beyond Bikes is a program for youth who would like to play a more active role in both their local community and regional community through service projects, co-intentional bike experiences with other bike programs, long-term goal and objective setting processes, and fostering connections within the bike community with the intention to grow and problem solve access and public lands use implications. The point of this cohort is to learn about our community, and explore avenues to make lasting change in multiple facets of our lives and community through facilitating experiences that help our participants make connections with things they experience in their day to day lives.

Goals

No. 1

Actively participate in & help our community

Seek out opportunities to learn about and participate in service activities within our community that have already identified problems and have successfully implemented plans and goals to address those problems.

No.2

Problem Solving & Goal Setting

Identify a problem or need we would like to help resolve and use the connections and knowledge learned and gained through community service activities to identify ways to address said needs.

No.3

Self & Group Accountability & Advocacy

Empower our participants to take accountability for themselves, their group, and create a space for them to share their expectations and goals for the program with a 70/30 approach.
Start Date: The Pilot season for the Beyond Bikes program is slated to begin March 31st with seasonally based registration for the first cohort (i.e. separate Spring, Summer, and Fall registration times)to allow us to modify and adjust as needed.
Program Structure: Beyond Bikes will consist of a mixed curriculum approach with equal parts bike instruction, community conversation forums, and community service projects. To make this goal attainable, every other meet-up will consist of a conversation forum, a service project, or both, in addition to 2 Saturday meetups per season, and one extended out of town trip per season. As stated above in goals, the program is designed under a 70/30 structure, with 70% of the program being facilitator and coach planned, and 30% of the program being left open ended to allow for each cohort to take ownership of their experience. The Beyond Bikes program curriculum is designed to be scaffolded in a way that allows us to follow at least 2 processes from start to finish to better understand how problem solving systems play out in our community.
